Résumé : Nous avons étudié pendant 2 ans sur des rats les effets sanitaires d'un maïs transgénique tolérant à l'herbicide Roundup (introduit dans l'alimentation à 3 doses de 11, 22 et 33%), cultivé avec ou sans épandage de cet herbicide, ou bien de Roundup seul dans l'eau de boisson (à partir de 0,1 parties par milliard). Les femelles, dans tous les groupes traités, sont mortes 2 à 3 fois plus que dans le groupe-témoin, et plus rapidement. Cette différence a été observée dans 3 groupes de mâles nourris avec l'OGM. Tous les résultats obtenus sont hormono-dépendants et liés au sexe,, avec des profils pathologiques comparables dans presque tous les cas. Les femelles ont développé plus fréquemment de grosses tumeurs mammaires et avant le groupe témoin, l'hypophyse étant le second organe le plus touché ; l'équilibre hormonal a été modifié par les traitements à base d'OGM et de Roundup. Chez les mâles traités, les nécroses et congestions du foie étaient de 2,5 à 5,5 fois plus élevées. Cette pathologie a été confirmée macroscopiquement, et en microscopie optique et électronique. Les néphropathies rénales progressives chroniques marquées et sévères étaient généralement de 1,3 à 2,3 plus élevées. Les mâles présentaient jusqu'à 4 fois plus de grosses tumeurs palpables, qui apparaissaient jusqu'à 600 jours plus tôt que le groupe témoin. Les données biochimiques ont confirmé des déficiences chroniques significatives des reins ; pour tous les traitements et les deux sexes, 76% des altérations des paramètres physiologiques étaient liés aux reins. Ces résultats peuvent s'expliquer par les perturbations endocriniennes non linéaires (non proportionnelles à la dose) causées par le Roundup, ainsi que par la surexpression du transgène dans l'OGM, et ses conséquences métaboliques.

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR, CENTRO AME RESUMEN: Se discute el caso de un niño de 12 años de edad, en control en Hospital Nacional de Niños "Benjamín Bloom", por Enfermedad desmielinizante (compatible con Leucodistrofia metacromática), quien consultó en dos ocasiones con historia de hemorragia de tubo digestivo superior siendo la primera consulta en abril 2008, fecha en que fue tratado como gastritis e infección por Helicobacter pylori. En el segundo episodio en el 2009, el gastroenterólogo reportó que no encontraba una causa local de la hemorragia en esófago, estómago y duodeno, por lo que se le efectuaron exámenes de extensión; y ante el cuadro de dolor abdominal, leve ictericia, hiperbilirrubinemia directa leve y un estudio ultrasonográfico que reportaba "síndrome de lodo biliar", el cirujano decidió hacer una colecistectomía extirpando la vesícula biliar, abriéndola durante el acto quirúrgico, encontrando un tumor de aspecto cerebroide alojado en el fondo, el que luego fue diagnosticado por Anatomía Patológica como Pólipo múltiple. Se concluye que el cuadro clínico observado en el segundo evento correspondió a una hemobilia, la que en este caso se atribuyó a Pólipos múltiples de la Vesícula biliar, patología de rara presentación en pediatría. Existen algunos reportes de pólipos en la vesícula biliar acompañando lesiones neurológicas del tipo Leucodistrofia metacromática, y deben de ser sospechadas e investigadas como en este caso. De ahí se establece la enorme importancia de reportarlo como caso interesante. SUMMARY:

Accepted: September 21, 2012 Experimental studies of translation have found that short genes tend to exhibit greater densities of ribosomes than long genes ineukaryotic species. It remains an open question whether the elevated ribosome density on short genes is due to faster initiation orslower elongation dynamics. Here, we address this question computationally using 50-mRNA folding energy as a proxy for translationinitiation rates and codon bias as a proxy for elongation rates. We report a significant trend toward reduced 50-secondary structure inshorter coding sequences, suggesting that short genes initiate faster during translation. We also find a trend toward higher 50-codonbias in short genes, suggesting that short genes elongate faster than long genes. Both of these trends hold across a diverse set ofeukaryotic taxa. Thus, the elevated ribosome density on short eukaryotic genes is likely caused by differential rates of initiation, ratherthan differential rates of elongation.
